Ballinkillen 1-16 Colt (Laois) 0-07

Ballinkillen played their third round of the Leinster League in dry but windy and cold conditions at home on Saturday 30th March against Colt. The visitors opened the scoring in a flourish, showing they came with intent from a good point by their full forward. From this point both teams worked hard and were intent on getting the measure of each other with good hurling. Craig Wall opened the home scoring on the 5th minute from a good delivery by Sean Murphy operating at wing forward. On the puck out, Ballinkillen worked the ball down the field and Daryl Roberts provided Craig with an excellent pass for a good goal. A minute later Craig popped over a second point to knock the visitors back and on the 9th minute he turned provider for Roberts to slot a ball over before Colt responded with three points - a 65 and two frees by their midfielder. Ballinkillen were more sure in possession and Sean Murphy finished a fine score after the home side worked the ball from side to side down the field. Colt replied with two points from play on the 18 minute - these to be their last scores of the half with the score at 1-05 to 0-06. Ballinkillen finished the half stronger with three points from Marty Dalton (a short free), Daryl Roberts and Sean Murphy to leave the half time score 1-08 to 0-06.

Immediately on the restart Daryl Roberts scored from a Craig Wall pass, Sean Murphy scored a minute later and was then fouled only for Craig Wall to slot the free. Michael Ryan stood up next to score a long range point to show the forwards how it's done, showing that the backs were on top with James Kinsella controlling the full back line, with John Hughes and Declan Foley solid and a halfback line of Ryan and Hughes controlling the middle third of the field. Colt scored a free on the 11th minute only for Andrew Gaule to reply with a well taken point. Craig wall scored his final point from the wing on the run, before Sean Whelan finished the game off with two well taken points on his introduction.

Ballinkillen, once they came to terms with the Colt side, controlled this game without too much fuss and will be looking to a far greater challenge in the playoff, as with this easy win they've now reached the semi-final of the competition against a fancied Ballygarret side from Wexford.
