Crossabeg-Ballymurn (Wexford) 20-08    Ballinkillen 18-04

Ballinkillen U-12 hurlers played their first game for the club of 2013 in the Rathnure indoor 9-a-side tournament on Sunday 10th March.

Crossabeg took some very good scores and controlled the first half as Ballinkillen struggled with the speed of play and tightness of the pitch. A lot of our players found it hard to get clearances and shots away as they were blocked and hooked by the opposition. A bit of winter rustiness was to be expected on the first day back and it took a while to adjust to the pitch and the indoor rules (e.g. no wides and no sidelines).
The Crossabeg goalkeeper was excellent all through the first half stopping a number of close-range shots.

Ballinkillen were transformed after half-time and went on to dominate the second half. The senior players on the team adjusted really well to the pitch and the rules, led by Jack Treacy from midfield and Conor Tracey in defence. Up front Eoin Whelan was enjoying his role on the edge of the square, picking off a number of well-taken goals.

Ballinkillen's determination and ability to adjust their play in a game that started badly are a credit to this team and bode well for the year ahead. Other players who stood out on Sunday were Patrick Kavanagh in defense and Jack Ryan and Louis Brennan in attack. Everyone on the team worked really hard to overcome the large half-time deficit, but Ballinkillen just fell short on this occassion.

Team: Louis Brennan, Eric English, Patrick Kavanagh, Jack McLoughlin, Eamonn Normanly, Thomas O'Donoghue, Jack Ryan, Adam Tobin, Conor Tracey, Jack Treacy, Eoin Whelan.
