Ballinillen 4-12 Naomh Brid 4-1

Ballinkillen got off to an impressive start in this game with Jack Treacy and Jack McLoughlin going well in mid-field and Eoin Whelan and Louis Brennan making hay on the full forward line. Louis Brennan claimed 1-1 in the first 4 minutes, followed by a sweet goal for Ballinkillen from the stick of Patrick Kavanagh on 6 minutes. Eoin Whelan pointed 3 in a row before Naomh Brid's tall midfielder, Luke Kelly, got his team off the mark with a fine point from a placed ball. Another Louis Brennan point was followed by Eoin Whelan's goal to leave the half-time score 3-5 to 0-1.

Naomh Brid put in a determined effort in the second half and outscored Ballinkillen 4-0 to 1-7. Louis Brennan and Jack Treacy pointed in the first minute. Louis goaled again on 5 minutes, but was held scoreless for the rest of the game, Ballinkillen's remaining points coming from Eoin Whelan (0-3), Jack Treacy (0-1) and Mark Foley (0-1).
But the story of the second half was Jack O'Brien's 4 goals from play for Naomh Brid who started to gain more posession at mid-field with Jason Daly and Luke Kelly coming more into the game and feeding the hungry O'Brien. Ballinkillen struggled to contain the strong running O'Brien who was a goal threat whenever he had the sliotar in his hand. Had the half-time score been closer Ballinkillen would have been in trouble, despite continuing to play well up front themselves.

Colin Byrne was outstanding again in the Ballinkillen defence - always a safe bet under the dropping ball. Sean Smithers put in great work on the Ballinkillen half-forward line as did Aaron Lennon Corcoran on the half-back line before he was forced off with injury.

Best for a brave and tenacious Naomh Brid team were Jack O'Brien, Jason Daly and Luke Kelly.
