Naomh Eoin 2-10    Ballinkillen 3-6

A derby thriller! This fixture was as entertaining as any hurling match we are likely to see in Carlow this year. It had magnificent scores, great duels and a nail-biting finish. The game started well for Ballinkillen as they went ahead 1-2 to no score. The goal, a lovely sweeping move started at cornerback by Liam McGuill and finished by the sharp Colin Bolger. With Cillian Redmond pulling the strings at centrefield, Miseal were finding it hard to get to grips with the Ballinkillen forwards. Slowly through the good work of David Nolan and the powerful Damian Jordan, Miseal began to eat into the Ballinkillen lead and sneaked a good goal through Jamie Kavanagh. The score at halftime saw them lead by 2 points on a scoreline of 1-7 to 1-5. The second half saw the same pattern of play. Ballinkillen again got off to a great start through a Colin Bolger goal. Ciaran Whelan was again on target with several frees to stretch that lead out. But a never-say-die attitude from Miseal saw them reel in the visitors as the game wore on. Padraig Slye lead the charge from midfield and a late scoring burst of 1-2 without reply saw them sneak a one point win despite the best efforts of Conor Treacy in the Ballinkillen goal.
